THE BLACK ATLANTIC come from Groningen, Netherlands. Founder of the band of
charismatic singer / songwriter and former Shai Hulud vocalist Geert van der Velde.
THE BLACK ATLANTIC represent authentic, acoustic indie-pop held, which is sweetened with a refined folk touch. After the debut EP "Send This Home" that van der Velde at that time as Valentine's Day gift to his then girlfriend - now wife and band member (!) - was recorded, the band released their latest debut album "Reverence For Fallen Trees" in a label cooperation with the Dutch label Beep Beep! Back Up The Truck and the Germany-based Midsummer Records.

The album "Reverence For Fallen Trees" at the end of 2008 in a log cabin in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York's included, offering a blend of melancholy and acoustic indie pop. The idyllic environment was created where the album can be heard almost in the songs: make catchy, pithy vocal harmonies and melodies of gentle guitars, piano sounds and minimalist percussion. This creates a soundscape that creates a very special feel and dream atmosphere, where you can lose yourself in a positive way.

The significant album entitled "Reverence For Fallen Trees" is indicative of the music from THE BLACK ATLANTIC. How to use the band, the symbolism of natural elements to create their own express stories about love, death and family.
THE BLACK ATLANTIC played since their first concert in the 2007 € Sonic Festival, more than 200 concerts worldwide (EU, UK and USA) and shared it with, among other things lifts NADA SURF, MIDLAKE, WOVEN HAND, THE ANTLERS - which can be heard as guest musician on the album -, Patrick Watson, Amanda Rogers WINDMILL. The band also played alongside several tours and single shows this year at SXSW (South By Southwest) Festival in the States and at the NXNE (North by North East) Festival in Canada.

From the love of words and the connection to them

course, I write. I am thinking not only of "you" or "you." I think of friends, lovers high and the fact that I could read what was written after the family meals on weekends. My notebook I carry around with me in order to turn over a suitable moment to present it and learn from direct response to what I've got spun. I have changed the way with my writing and realized that I'm learning faster, better, when I with my voice linking readers and listeners to be let. I have got used to love my writing again and working hard to improve it. At first she was ugly and you could see that I previously wrote almost only on paper, the text then later be fed into the computer. Then came the virginal white sheets on which I tried to work as straight as possible. This of course was nothing. I moved at some point the lines, they moved in and out, first letter wrote a fairy tale high, containing such things. But somehow I'm still working, stop me in a kind of norm to have. I wrote a few letters in which I pointed underlining, bold and represented, I think that gave emphasis to the text. It gives me great pleasure terrible to bring more personality, as I give the manuscript back to one vote.

I felt, however, that there still were limits, of which I did not know how I should skip it. There was this feeling that I can not let off steam in the form in which I did, I would be quite natural and honest (in dealing with materials such as pens, paints, paper and of course the word itself). There were these thoughts, in which it was just about what you should do in no case, even though there are no rules to how you have expressed.

The fact that I only had a few weeks later in Poland was sitting at a desk, wrote a poem about it that I can not write poems by myself and they do not like, and that exactly this text was then one of my loved ones ... that's almost all over my triumph Boundaries, making it so was in my head sometimes.
